Fighting through Crossfit benchmark WOD Karen
Yesterday my box took on the Crossfit benchmark WOD Karen.

Karen is a beast and I hate her. Karen is 150 Wall balls for time (20# wall balls for men/14# for women).
I’ve only officially been doing Crossfit for 2 months. Since I’ve been training before Crossfit, I would say I can do about 90% of the workouts Rx with decent times. Not great, but decent.
Having said that, nothing can prepare you for Karen. What sets her apart is:
- One movement for the entire WOD
- A large amount of reps for one movement
My lower back was killing me at the end of the workout. I wasn’t in pain, but rather just really tight.
My final time was 11:35 Rx.
For my first Karen, I was pretty happy with it, but I actually think it was the toughest workout I’ve done. On other WOD’s, doing multiple exercises/movements actually gives your body a breather since the muscles you use in one movement are different than the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th movement.
With Karen, you just have to hit the same movement time, after time, after time. I also had more of a mental game with this WOD than others. I had to convince myself to minimize rest and get 5 more, and then 5 more, and then 5 more.
It feels so good to be done though and you feel such a sense of accomplishment on something like this. I’m also happy to be done with another benchmark WOD.
